Is my Income Tax Return withheld from my salary if I am a domestic helper?

If you work as domestic help, no income tax will be deducted from your salary. This is because the Income Tax Regulations (IRPF) do not allow employers to withhold income tax from their employees. A binding enquiry to the Directorate General of Taxation confirmed this interpretation of the regulation. Therefore, employers are not required to withhold personal income tax (IRPF) from their domestic workers, and domestic workers cannot request that such withholding be applied to them.
